Last day I'm going to be writing "GMT". Maybe next time I'm in the UK, I'll take a trip to Greenwich. That could be interesting. Right? Of course, I'm fairly certain I could spend an entire year just on the British Isles and not get bored. In fact, I've added that to the list of trips I dream about. You've all heard some of these from me before:
-Road trip across North America, hitting 49 states and all the Canadian provinces.
-Motorcycle through Central and South America.
-Bicycle Africa from top to bottom, climbing Kilimanjaro along the way, and then boating from Lake Victoria back up to Egypt.
-Walkabout in the Australian outback.
-HITCHHIKE AROUND THE BRITISH ISLES.
Yeah, yeah. I see you shaking your heads. But if I didn't have to worry about money, you KNOW I'm serious about all of these.
Somehow, I keep picking the most beautiful days to travel. Ordinarily, it might bother me that I'm sitting on a train instead of being outdoors enjoying the sunshine. But since I'm having a hard time getting around on my left foot, I'm quite enjoying the train ride. I'm sitting in the train equivalent of a bulkhead seat. I'm across the aisle from the WC, and in between the last row of seats and the luggage rack. It seems like they couldn't quite fit another row of seats, so they took one single seat and turned it sideways, so that I'm actually facing the WC, and able to stretch my legs across the aisle.
The one thing that I really wanted to buy in Scotland was a bottle of Scotch Whiskey for Simon. He was coming to pick me up in Koblenz at 1:30am Sunday morning, I think I owe him :). I had even planned to take a 6 pound Whiskey "tour", just so I could know what KIND of whiskey to buy. I never made it to the whiskey tour (nor even to Edinburgh castle. There was just too much FREE stuff to do and see in town :), but I had two different people recommend a 20 pound bottle called Old PUltenay. However, as I stood in line at the Royal Mile Whiskey Shop, I overheard an American couple asking if their bottle could be bubble wrapped, since it had to go in their checked luggage. I had forgotten that you can't take liquids on the plane! Good thing I heard them saying this BEFORE I bought it. Next time I plan a trip like this, I think I'm going to have to fly in, and take the train back, not the other way around.
